Joliet woman files slip and fall lawsuit against Burlington Coat Factory

A 67-year-old woman filed a lawsuit against Burlington Coat Factory over a slip and fall accident that resulted in injuries. The lawsuit cited five instances of negligence.

Judith Hemme was visiting the Joliet store when she tripped over a metal post belonging to a merchandise display and fell. The lawsuit claimed the post was a hazard as it was sticking out into the aisle used by customers.

The lawsuit accused Burlington Coat Factory of “carelessly and negligently” creating a hazardous situation with its merchandise display placement. The store allegedly failed to warn Hemme and other shoppers about the dangerous condition.

Hemme’s lawsuit is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages. The injuries she suffered in the slip and fall accident led to large medical bills and other financial losses.

Slip and fall accidents can occur in a variety of settings. Retail stores and supermarkets are among the top reported locations due to the potential hazards involved. Whether it is spilled liquids on floors or cluttered shopping aisles, customers are exposed to the risk of serious injuries from slip and fall accidents when negligence is involved.
