Authorities investigate Illinois man’s death in double motorcycle crash

A Chicago woman was arrested after a motorcyclist died and his female passenger suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run accident in suburban Crystal Lake, Illinois. The two victims were struck by the woman’s car while they were riding a motorcycle through an intersection.

Carolyn Tyrrell, 53, was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash. Authorities said additional charges were expected besides the felony offense.

According to investigators, the motorcycle was heading south on Virginia Road when it was hit by a red sedan at the intersection with Berkshire Drive at around 7:35 p.m. The impact caused both victims to be thrown from the motorcycle onto the roadway.

The motorcycle driver was transported to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital where he later died from his injuries. The female passenger was hospitalized in serious condition at Advocate Condell Medical Center.

Police located the sedan after recovering evidence at the scene of the crash. They found Tyrell about two miles away and arrested her.
