Chicago bicyclist struck by car in fatal accident
The coronavirus pandemic has led to a drop in traffic, accompanied by an increase in pedestrians and bicyclists heading outdoors for socially distanced fresh air and exercise. Unfortunately, the empty roads have led to a rise in reckless driving behaviors like speeding.
A 37-year-old bicyclist recently died from his injuries after being hit by a car in Chicago, Illinois. Police said he was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled his death accidental.
Andrew Peterson was biking east on Taylor Street. Chicago police said a 27-year-old male driver hit the bicyclist close to a Dan Ryan Expressway ramp on the Near West Side. The driver, who was in a Volkswagen vehicle, remained at the scene of the bicycle accident. Police ticketed him for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
