Seven people hospitalized after car crash on Illinois Interstates

Seven people were involved in a two-vehicle car accident that occurred at the intersection of Illinois Routes 3 and 143 near Wood River. All of them were taken to local hospitals following the crash.

One of the vehicles in the collision had five occupants and was traveling southbound on Route 3. The other car contained two people and was moving eastbound on Route 143. The five-occupant vehicle veered off the road and into a water retention basin. As a result, first responders had to enter the water in order to rescue and treat the accident victims.

Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the crash hours after it occurred. Because it was so severe, accident reconstruction experts from the Illinois State Police were asked to provide assistance.
