A motorcyclist and his passenger died after being hit by a car in Belleville, Illinois. Authorities said the two-vehicle crash occurred just before 9 p.m. at the intersection of State Street and South Belt West.
The male motorcycle rider, 66, was on a 2000 BMW 259R motorcycle with a 60-year-old female passenger. The motorcycle collided with a white 2014 Chevrolet Cruz being driven by a 23-year-old man. Police said they took the car’s driver into custody for further investigation after he received treatment at the scene of the accident.
Belleville Police said the victims were taken to area hospitals, where they died from their injuries. The names of the three individuals involved were not released.
The fatal collision occurred on the heels of at least four other serious crashes in recent weeks. Motorcyclists died or suffered injuries in accidents that involved an SUV, a tow truck, a concrete planter and a semitrailer.
