Tanker truck causes chain reaction accident on I-55

Multiple people were injured in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 in Channahon, Illinois. A tanker truck was the catalyst for a chain reaction collision that involved a semi-trailer and two SUVs.

The Illinois State Police said the truck accident occurred along the southbound lanes of the interstate close to Arsenal Road. Three of the vehicles decreased their speed for traffic ahead. The tanker truck, which was carrying water, failed to stop in time for unknown reasons. Authorities said the truck hit the back of the SUV in front of it, setting off a series of crashes with the semi-trailer and another SUV.

Although no serious injuries were reported, multiple people were transported to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. All southbound I-55 lanes were shut down for over an hour after the truck accident.
