Chicago personal injury law firm Briskman Briskman & Greenberg selected Kaylee Dohney as the 2020 recipient of its Accident Survivor Scholarship. Dohney will receive $1,000 toward her first-year tuition at the University of Alabama.

Dohney was involved in a car accident in 2016 that left her pinned under the vehicle she was riding in with a friend who had just gotten her license. Her injuries were severe. After the accident, she was life-flighted to a hospital three hours away from her home, where she had to be placed on a ventilator. She remained in the hospital for weeks. 

Dohney recalls that her physical recovery was painful and slow, and the emotional impact of the accident and her hospitalization were tremendous. She now advocates for car safety among her peers and always reminds her friends to buckle up.

She is a graduating senior from Alabama who plans to attend the University of Alabama in the fall.

The Accident Survivor Scholarship is given annually by Briskman Briskman & Greenberg to an incoming or first-year student at a university or law school who has overcome serious injuries caused by the negligence of others, such as in a vehicle accident like Kaylee Dohney, medical error or another accident. The winning students are chosen based on a 500-word personal essay detailing their story and how they have personally grown from their experiences.
