Its overall design sets it apart from the other e-scooters. It looks like a bicycle, but it is a scooter with a bigger seat and larger wheels than the average electric scooter.

Wheels are dockless electric scooters that come equipped with a wireless hands-free speaker system. Each scooter also comes with a helmet. Moreover, the scooters have a removable battery.

To rent a Wheels scooter, you must download the Wheels app. The app shows you where nearby Wheels scooters are in your area. It also unlocks the scooter when you are ready to ride it.

One of the design features of Wheels electric scooters is that riders operate them sitting down. Other e-scooters require the user to stand up. The design of Wheels e-scooters means that riders can reach speeds of 22 miles per hour. This almost ten miles per hour faster than other e-scooters.

The ability to go faster may entice people to rent and ride Wheels e-scooters. However, reaction time on an e-scooter at 22 miles per hour may not be quick enough to avoid pedestrians or other vehicles.

Another safety concern is parking Wheels scooters in areas that block pedestrians’ walkways. To help its riders, Wheels lists three types of places not to park their e-scooters:

On private property
In traffic
In the way (where people have to cross)

Laws and regulations on e-scooters

Illinois is working to put new laws in place regarding electric scooter use. Currently, a proposed law wants to address licensing requirements, age limits and where be used.

However, the state still needs to implement laws to address e-scooter accidents and injuries. To deal with e-scooter accidents, Illinois uses current traffic and motor vehicle laws.
