Pedestrian suffers partial arm amputation after being hit by minivan
A 30-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in the village of Beach Park, Illinois. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies rushed to the scene of the accident and found him lying on the ground with critical injuries.
The man had been walking in the roadway when the driver hit him. He suffered a partial arm amputation and was bleeding profusely. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Campobasso described the scene as “chaotic.”
Campobasso’s 13 years of departmental experience and training proved useful. He applied a life-saving tourniquet to the pedestrian’s arm to stop the substantial blood loss. Paramedics arrived several minutes later and took the accident victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Campobasso said the 29-year-old female driver who struck the pedestrian was “upset” and had stopped at the scene. She was driving a 2014 Dodge Caravan southbound on Sheridan Road when the accident occurred.
